fillers or aus i would love to play running list; if you're interested in any of this, throw up a starter and i am there
steve + peggy
Peggy and Steve's reunion when he returns to the past.
That dance scene. /sobs
Anything about their life afterward.
steve + tony
Conversations about Peggy or Howard, or anything else they'd talk about during their 2-man mission to the past
First time Steve and Tony interact after Tony calls Steve out on how failing together sucks.
Did Steve and Tony ever talk during those 5 years? If so, what did that look like?
[au] Tony survives, but Steve doesn't know that when he goes back in time. So now Steve is really old and Tony is not.
[au] Tony survives and Steve comes back from returning the stones and they rebuild their relationship
steve + natasha
Awful life at Avengers compound before Ant-Man, basically lots of hurt/comfort with each other
[au] When Steve tells Natasha that maybe they should both move on, he asks her out on a date — it becomes a very sad attempt at moving on, but it's also a sad kind of solace.
steve + bucky
Honestly, they barely got any time back together. Steve and Buck MUST have talked before Steve just decided to go back in the past. Possible convo where he admits he's not coming back, and asking Bucky if he wants to return back to their time with him?
steve + anyone
So ... you can so Mjolnir now?
Conversations with various characters when he returns the stones to their rightful place in the past
Someone insisting on going back in time with Steve, and they return all the stones together and this person convinces Steve to come back (or, is convinced that he really doesn't want to)
shuri + anyone
Rebuilding the world from Wakanda
Meeting the other avengers
One-uping our science bros during reconstruction :D
tony stark (AI) + morgan/anyone
I imagine this will be mostly sass.
And with everyone who is not Morgan, this will basically be him joking about how he's going to live forever.
[ After the service, Steve hadn't meant to wander out here alone. He only knew he needed to walk, and then step by step, his feet took him here to the edge of the lake. If there had been more land, he probably would've kept going, but even Steve Rogers can't walk on water. Though, he thinks, Tony Stark kind of could.
He smiles softly at the thought, even as he feels a lump gathering in his throat. He could never have told Tony that flying lets him pass over water like Jesus. A comment like that would've gone straight to his head.
Would've.
When it comes to Tony Stark, Steve has too many regrets.
Before he can dig himself into a hole too deep, however, the crunch of the leaves though gives him plenty of warning that someone's coming. After a few steps, without looking, he knows it's Bucky.
In the first couple of seconds, he feels compelled to say something or to explain why he's here. But as he turns to look at his best friend, Steve just smiles, weakly, like a soldier who has always known what it means to lose a man — but who knows he will never be able to move on. ]
[ That smile hits Bucky right in the chest and he frees his right hand to reach out and put it on Steve's shoulder, squeezing it. ]
He was a good man.
[ He knows that. Despite the last time they saw each other. Despite the right he'd had to go after Bucky the way he had. He knows what he'd meant to Steve. To all of them.
[ The squeeze feels familiar — a mirror of the many times they've gone through this ritual for one another.
When he hears Buck say that Tony was a good man, Steve pulls his smile tighter as he nods. His own hand reaches up to pat Bucky's twice, before lowering back down. ]
A great one.
[ It's less of a correction and more of an acknowledgment — of both how much Tony had grown, and how much Tony had taught him in the past ten years. ]
[ It's times like these when he can see Steve suffering silently that he wishes he could pull that pained smile out of him. Take away his grief and responsibility and stuff something else inside of him. But he can't and he knows that Steve wouldn't want him to anyway. He looks out over the water. ]
You're going to miss him. [ It's not a question. He smiles faintly, glancing over at Steve. ] I think that's the way he would've wanted it.
[ Steve smiles first, when he hears Buck say that you, Steve Rogers, are gonna miss him. It's true, he thinks, as he keeps looking toward the lake, which now carries the first heart that Tony ever made for himself.
But then he actually lets out a breathy chuckle, even if the edges are singed with sadness, when he hears that's how Tony would've wanted it. ]
You know what Buck? [ He glances back at him. ] I think you're right. [ He lets out another breath, but his smile is still there. ] I think he would've wanted us all to miss him. [ There's a tenderness to his words. Like Steve knows now, better than he did when he first met Tony, that things are no longer about vanity or ego or even being appreciated. Tony gave everything for this world. He deserves to be remembered, forever.
After another moment of silence, Steve reaches over and puts a hand on Bucky's shoulder. He just squeezes it once, in thanks, that Bucky's choosing to be here, with him. His presence means a lot. ]
[ ooc: if you're down, we could jump forward in time a little soon, and steve could ask bucky about whether he wants to stay back in history >> ]
[ They spend more time by the lake in silence, but eventually they rejoin the others. It's later that evening that the stones are first brought up, though well out of the hearing of Pepper. Bucky's not surprised when Steve volunteers to go back and take them, though something feels off. He watches Steve carefully for the rest of that night and the next few days that follow, a growing suspicion solidifying in his mind.
It's the morning that Steve's meant to go back and Bucky can't shake this uneasy feeling in the pit of his stomach. He waits until Steve's alone before knocking on his door and stepping into his room. They're due at the landing pad in a few hours.
Bucky shuts the door behind him and takes a deep breath, leveling a knowing look at him. ]
[ He means to talk to Bucky about it. But truth is, Steve volunteered so he'd have the option, and he still hasn't been able to decide if it's a good idea. Instead, this morning, with Mjolnir at the foot of his bed and a suitcase full of infinity stones, Steve is still trying to figure out how badly he could screw up history when he hears knocking at the door.
Then, his best friend asks him that question point-blank and for the first time, the answer comes back to him definitively. He takes a deep breath too, then. ]
No, Buck. Don't think I am.
[ But when Steve actually says it, he realizes something else. ]
[ Bucky gives him a tight lipped smile. As much as he is willing to follow Steve to the ends of the Earth he doesn't think that's a good idea. He sighs, leaning against the door frame and crossing his arms over his chest.]
I think I've done enough shaping of the century.
[ It would be too hard knowing what he was out there doing and trying to find a way to live with it. He didn't understand everything he'd been told about time travel, but to him it seemed as if it was something akin to fire. The more one messed with it, the more likely they'd be to getting themselves or someone else burned.]
[ While he still carried hope before Bucky's answer — for those few precious seconds between when the idea came and when he got the question out — but when the answer inevitably comes back negative, Steve gives his best friend a soft, empathetic nod. He'd hoped, but maybe a part of him already knew the answer. ]
I'm gonna miss you. [ He says that before answering the other question. ] A lot.
[ Then, after a brief pause. ]
No, I don't think so.
If I'm right about how this all works, they'll find out quickly enough.
[ He takes in a low breath, holding it for a long moment. ] I'm going to miss you too.
[ More than he can say. More than he has any right to after all the things he's put Steve through. Steve's been family, it feels, since the moment they met. He's saved him in so many ways that he knows there's not a way that he could ever really thank him, let alone pay him back.
But he can do this. He can let him go, even if it kills him, because Steve needs this. More than that. He deserves this.

He swallows, smiling faintly.]
Try not to do anything stupid.
